La Salud en Choco... nada cambia

El Periodico Choco7Dias anuncio que en el Municipio de Nuqui, hacen un llamado urgente a la EPS Comfachoco para que gestione de inmediato la remision de una senora de 62 anos que lleva cuatro dias en el Centro de Salud de Nuqui esperando una ambulancia aerea para que la transladen a un hospital de tercer nivel fuera del Departamento del Choco. La paciente quien sufrio un politraumatismo y requiere con urgencia una operacion u atencion especializada, preocupa por el riesgo de complicaciones entre mas tiempo espera. La Personeria de Nuqui solicito la ambulancia aerea medica pero nada que llega. Asi continuan las cosas en Choco. Se necesita hospital de III Nivel. Hasta cuando?

Thanksgiving Resolutions

Thanksgiving Resolutions Happy Thanksgiving! As the country gets ready this week to wish everyone a Happy thanksgiving it is fitting to sit down for some reflection about what this magnificent holiday does to us and to our people. With airports full, and planes going everywhere, we thank our government for opening up, and the dynamics are in full motion. How many turkeys are sacrificed, at the tables of families so that we can all be thankful for the many graces provided during the year? However, somehow, families feel the stress of coming together, not always a happy occasion. Families evolve. So, while the families of our childhood are not the families of our adulthood or the families of our old age, we have got to evolve with the times. That is not always easy! Who knew that we had to do that? We grow up thinking about our families as our stone, our rock, but we do not believe that families are living entities that change and have to adapt to new times. Families change when a baby arrives or when an in-law arrives or leaves. So, more than a stone, families are living things that breathe and are permeable to the environment. Does the family have a good or bad reputation in our country? Do families stand by the Christian commandment of “Love your neighbor as yourself”? Or “Honor your parents”? Well, here is one of the challenges we see today. It reminds me of the mechanics of a car. Do cars have malfunctions or dysfunctions? A malfunction is when the car does not work, and it would be dangerous to take it out for a ride, at the risk of being left stuck without transportation, that is if you can turn it on, in the first place. On the other hand, the term dysfunction was connected to family functioning, back in the late 1940’s. Dysfunction comes from the Greek root Dys which means “bad, abnormal, difficult” and the word “function” from the Latin “fungi” to perform. So, dysfunction often implies a deeper or chronic issue in systems or relationships, while malfunction typically refers to a specific failure in operation of a mechanical nature. Well, this Thanksgiving, we will or not be sitting at a table with family, the closest people in our lives, given that we may share parents to arrive on earth. It depends on how healthy our system is or how dysfunctional it may be. Yesterday, as I picked up my groceries, and wished the attendant a Happy Thanksgiving, he said he was not getting together with his family, since he had left his family at 14 years of age. When prompted a bit about why so early, he was open enough to said, “oh, my father was a drunk and abuser, and I had to leave. I still see him occasionally.” Later on, I prayed that he had learned from this traumatic experience, to avoid repeating it with his own children. So, it was good to pinpoint the cause of this guy’s family dysfunction, stemming from alcohol and abuse. However, in second generations, sometimes, you don’t know what started the family dysfunction. It is just a feeling of tension that grows out of “nowhere” and people many times are not willing to talk about it. We talk about poverty in the Third World countries, but these family issues are a huge part of the spiritual poverty that consumes the First World countries. We need a spiritual revolution to change that. How to go about it? That is where the Thanksgiving resolutions come in. Perhaps we can start thinking about what our family disfunctions are all about? Where do they start? Are they still painful? Or can we apply a bit of FORGIVENESS in order to resolve some issues? That may fix 60% of the issues. So, the first resolution will be FORGIVE AND RESTART. What next? Well, some COMMUNICATION will be like the grease that lubricates the carburetor. Starting with What’s new? What’s going on? What’s old and still going on? What changes have happened in your life since the last time we talked? And keep in mind the first resolution, while you apply the second! Avoid a fight, keep it cool. And a final and third resolution could be: COMMIT to make a positive change in your family. How about visiting parents at the nursing home, once a month, once a week? Call them every day? Bring flowers to your mom? Spend the time talking with your dad? Just some food for thought, so your Thanksgiving is one to be remembered in 2025! Blessings to you, and if you could, say a prayer and give thanks for all those that came before you and created this wonderful family that you are a part of. Do we want to be a throw away culture? Or a thriving family culture? Campaña de Navidad en Chocó

La Fundación Sembrando Futuros, está haciendo una campaña de Navidad, para recoger regalos para los niños de la Parroquia San José de Kennedy. Los niños y niñas de 1 a 12 años, estarán felices de recibir regalos esta Navidad, y por las condiciones economicas, es dificil para sus padres proveerlos. Los invitamos a donar juguetes, ropa, zapatos y mercados a las familias de esta parroquia. Se aceptan regalos y comestibles con fechas no expiradas. Ejemplos de donaciones: Juguetes: Muñecas, carritos, rompecabezas, crayones, libros de colores, juegos como UNO, utiles escolares. Inundaciones El Valle, Bahia Solano

Es Noviembre, y al igual que en el 2024, el rio crece y afecta a las familias riberenas inundando sus hogares. Que se puede hacer ante una emergencia de este tipo? La Gobernadora Nubia Carolina Cordoba tiene activado el Comite de Gestion de Riesgo. Sin embargo, sacar a la gente de esta emergencia pero volver a sus hogares despues, continua siendo un riesgo debido al moho y a la debilitacion de los materiales de construccion de sus hogares. La concientizacion de que las zonas riberenas son un riesgo para construir su vivienda, es dificil. Seguramente, estas zonas se escogen for el facil acceso al agua. Asi, el agua no sea necesariamente clara y pura. Pero, es agua. Zonas mas alejadas del rio, necesitan acueducto, alcantarillado, agua pura y filtrada y electricidad. Es bajo el porcentaje de hogares que cuentan con estas necesidades basicas que no son lujos: Agua potable y electricidad. Con todo el oro y platino que hay en los suelos del Choco, podria ser un paraiso. Pero, desafortunadamente, esto no es asi. Por eso, nuestros suenos de hacer el canal interoceanico, que incluira vivienda para los chocoanos, hospitales, escuelas y todo lo que facilite tener una vida mas sana. Estamos felices por la nueva Facultad de Medicina que viene el ano entrante. Esperamos que esto sea un gran aporte a la salud del Choco. Por el momento, nuestras oraciones para que se evapore pronto el agua del rio. El llamado es a los lideres y gobernantes, para que se ofrezca vivienda en zonas no inundables a los Chocoanos, y de una vez arreglar esta crisis anual que ya no es una sorpresa, pero se puede predecir y por lo tanto manejar.

Carta al Dr. Abelardo de la Espriella

Noviembre 1, 2025 Doctor Abelardo De la Espriella Colombia Doctor de la Espriella: Le escribo desde el corazón del Pacífico colombiano, donde el río Atrato sigue fluyendo con dignidad, aunque tantas veces ha sido ignorado. Usted, como abogado y figura pública, ha alzado su voz en múltiples escenarios nacionales. Hoy, le invito a mirar hacia el Chocó—no como una periferia, sino como un centro de transformación. Aquí, en esta tierra de oro y selva, hemos aprendido a resistir con alegría. Hemos sembrado escuelas en medio del olvido, levantado hospitales con manos propias, y ahora, celebramos el nacimiento de la Facultad de Medicina en la Universidad Tecnológica del Chocó—un acto de justicia largamente esperado. Le pregunto con respeto: ¿Qué lugar ocupa el Chocó en su visión de país? ¿Dónde están sus palabras sobre nuestras luchas, nuestras esperanzas, nuestras propuestas? No buscamos caridad ni discursos vacíos. Buscamos aliados que reconozcan que el futuro de Colombia también se escribe en Bojayá, en Istmina, en Quibdó. Que la dignidad no tiene color ni frontera. Le invito a caminar con nosotros, aunque sea con palabras. A pronunciar el nombre del Chocó no como una estadística, sino como una promesa. A usar su influencia para abrir caminos, no para cerrarlos. Nueva Facultad de Medicina en la UTCH - Choco

Felicitaciones a la Universidad Tecnologica del Choco, por la nueva resolucion del Ministerio de Educacion, para empezar una cohorte de 30 estudiantes de medicina en el 2026. Los estudios incluiran 12 semestres, de manera presencial y 275 creditos. La Resolucion 018743 de septiembre 9, 2025 da luz verde a la UTCH para desarrollar la Facultad de Medicina. En estos momentos, el Choco tiene un medico para 10,000 habitantes. La Facultad de Medicina, permitira a los Chocoanos estudiar en su propio departamento y ejercer alli mismo. La Guajira y Soacha tambien tendran su propia facultad de medicina, los felicitamos igualmente.
