Earthquake in Chocó

This morning at 7:34 am Colombians experienced one of the strongest earthquakes, they have ever had. The epicenter of the earthquake was in Choco, 5 km from the town called San Jose del Palmar, about 100 from Quibdo. The magnitud of the earthquake was 7.4 in the Richter scale and the depth was 110 km. Later on, at 8:18 am a second earthquake hit 16 km of San Jose del Palmar with a magnitud of 5.0. Since Sowing Seeds for the Future, assists projects in Choco, we are in contact with many of the people in the town. So far, one of the priests that we are in contact with, says that 91 people were injured, and 6 people passed away. But, there are lots of buildings and houses down, and possible people are trapped inside. They are working hard to locate them and remove them from the debris. Today was a very hopeful day in Colombia, since it is the beginning of the new administration of President Abelardo de la Espriella and his Vicepresident Jose Manuel Restrepo. Definitely, a sad experience for all who lost loved ones and property. We hope the reconstruction will be a positive endeavor, to bring electricity and potable water and antiseismic constructions to the many areas of Choco, who still do not have these basic services.
