--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------With the hunger crisis in Chocó, Colombia, a solution to provide protein that Sowing Seeds for the Future Foundation is considering is the development of home poultry industry. The project will start in mid-December, in which 15 people will be trained in the management of chicken coups and laying hens. The goal for now is to provide 150 hens in a period of 10 months. Each laying hen lays an egg a day. We have calculated that it could produce about 54,000 eggs a year with this program. The idea is to make the project self-sustaining, and initially the eggs will be shared with the community, but later after providing the benefit to the families and the community, that they can sell the surplus.
The value of a hen-and-cost food (3 kilos of concentrate per month) is about $30.000 pesos or $10 US dollars. Since this can be one of the solutions to the malnutrition of children in Choco, we invite the public to adopt a hen for $ 30,000 pesos or $ 10USD per month.
