Choco and Vichada departments have the highest maternal mortality rates during child birth in the country.
With more than 300 deaths per year for every 100,000 live births, Choco and Vichada departments are the hardest hit by the phenomenon of maternal mortality, followed by Cauca, Putumayo, Vaupes Guanía. In these departments, the maternal mortality rate is above 150 deaths per 100,000 live births, according to figures released by the National Demographic and Health Departments performed by Profamilia in 2010 and that put our country in fourth place in Latin America with the highest number of cases of this phenomenon. "
