Social Program for Novita and neighboring towns

Social Program for Novita and Neighboring Towns

Sowing Seeds for the Future (SS4FF) is a nonprofit foundation in the State of Minnesota, advocating for the health and education of children of Colombia.  On March 2012 we learned from the RCN radio station that children between 5 to 10 years old were committing suicide in Chocó, Colombia because of hunger.
We did some research and found that childhood mortality was five times greater that in the rest of the country.  Seven out of 10 children were undernourished and anemic (ICBF).  Sixty five percent of the population lives below the poverty line.

Solutions:

a. Through our work we have sent Moringa Oleifera seeds, (high
protein, vitamin, mineral and anti-oxidants to the University of
Choco (UTCH) agricultural and experimental farm.  Dean Teofilo Cuesta is cultivating them with the purpose of providing a couple of plants to each home in Chocó.

b. SS4FF found the donation of two machines to make soymilk for
the children. Installation has not been possible yet because the lack of funds to purchase the soy beans on a monthly basis.

c. We have been promoting the interest for the Interoceanic Canal, a mega project that will generate a development pole for Colombia.  It is the only place where a leveled canal, without locks for post Panama ships 250.000 tons can be made.

d. We are also raising interest for the San Pablo Canal, 46 km between the Atrato  and the San Juan rivers.  It needs only a hydraulic boat lift 20 meters high.

e. We are promoting the dredging of the Tarena mouth of the Atrato
River to decrease the floods in the lower valley.
