As we start
the Campaign to eliminate the malnutrition and child mortality in Choco, some
things come to mind. We are the voices
of the poor malnourished children, who have no way to speak up. As adults we are responsible to do something
for the children who cannot thrive because they have no way to access the
resources.
Can you
imagine,if you had no coffee in the morning?
Or if you could not eat your sandwich at lunch? Or how about if there was no money for the
chocolates or chips you like to eat?
Going to sleep hungry, night after night? We live in a society that suffers from excess. We go on a diet every
Monday because we loss control eating desserts and high calorie snacks. It is hard to imagine, if we did not have any
of that.
Well, that
is the reality for many children in Choco.
Three thousand children are experiencing severe malnutrition. Some are committing suicide, because they
cannot take the hunger any more. 15.000
families are suffering from poverty and cannot meet their daily calorie intake
in Choco.
Please help
us by sending a tax-exempt donation to Sowing Seeds for the Future Foundation,
P.O.Box 2033, Stillwater, MN 55082. 100%
of the donation will be used to purchase soy milk equipment for the 5 main
cities of Choco: Andagoya, Bagado,
Condoto, Ismina and Quibdo. We donate
our own administrative costs.
Thank you
and God Bless you.

ReplyDeleteIt is hard to understand why people living in Choco surrounded by gold and platinum mines, live in extreme poverty. 15.000 children are hungry, undernourished, anemic! Choco has the highest infantile mortality of Colombia. 65% of people live under the level of poverty, in shacks without pure water, electricity, sewers or septic tanks. Food is scarce. No roads. Total isolation.
The great concern is they live among rich mines of gold and platinum. Nothing trickles down for the poor, taxes are very low.
Please give your tax exempt donation to Sowing Seeds for the Future Foundation (SS4FF) P.O.Box 2033, Stillwater, MN 55082. USA We need a two million dollar to buy soy cows for Choco towns to provide some proteins to hungry children, some of them committing suicide because of hunger. "Ask and you shall receive." Our obligation is to feed the hungry"

"Significantly, child malnutrition and infant mortality remain high despite the fact that continuous progress has been made for several years. Regional differences in most indicators suggest that the efforts required to surmount gaps in income and social well-being are enormous for some areas. Infant mortality rates in Chocó, the department with the worst social indicators, are similar to the national average 20 years ago. The incidence of child malnutrition is 50 percent higher in households in which the mother has no education than in those in which she has primary education. Overall, the sustained improvement in the main social indicators of the last decades should not divert attention from those Colombians still experiencing conditions that the country, as a whole, left behind 10 or 20 years ago. The experience of other countries in Latin America suggests that faster rates of improvement in living conditions can be achieved".

The technology to produce RUTF is simple and can
be transferred to any country with minimal industrial
infrastructure. RUTF cost about US$3 per kilogram
when locally produced. A child being treated for
severe acute malnutrition will need 10–15 kg of
RUTF, given over a period of six to eight weeks.
Information on producing RUTF locally is available
at .
